My Walmart Haul for Cozy Chicken and Dumplings

There’s something especially comforting about a pot of chicken and dumplings simmering on the stove. It’s hearty, cozy, and just right for an easy family dinner. I picked up the ingredients for this meal during a Walmart run, then turned them into a creamy chicken stew topped with soft, fluffy dumplings. Here’s what went into my haul and how I made it.

What I Picked Up at Walmart

  • 1 Rotisery chicken

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 3 baby carrots, peeled and sliced

  • 2 celery stalks, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp paprika (optional, adds color and depth)

  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans cream of celery soup

  • 1 (14 oz) can chicken broth

  • 1 cup frozen peas (add at the end)

  • 1 can of biscuits

  • 1 cube chicken

Making the Chicken and Dumplings

  1. chop all your veggies (carrots, onion, celery)

  2. Shred your chicken

  3. Place chicken, veggies, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, cream of celery and chicken broth all in your crockpot.

  4. Turn crock pot on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours. let everything cook together.

  5. cut up your can of biscuits into small pieces and place in fridge until its time to add them to crockpot.

  6. 1 hour before your crockpot is done places your cut up biscuits on the top (do not mix them in) let them cook for an hour until no longer sticky.

  7. serve up and enjoy!

Easy Tips for a Cozy Dinner

If the stew seems thicker than you like, stir in a splash of broth or milk. For a richer result, add a little extra butter or a splash of cream. Taste the broth before serving and adjust the seasoning as needed; a bit more pepper or thyme can make the flavors pop.

This Walmart haul made a satisfying, no-fuss dinner without requiring a long list of ingredients. Serve the chicken and dumplings warm in bowls, with extra black pepper on top. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in a covered container and reheated gently with a splash of broth. It’s a comforting meal that’s easy to make your own—and a delicious reason to keep these simple ingredients on your shopping list.
